WIAW: His & Hers Refeeds

Happy WIAW! :)

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, Max decided to compete and started a pre-contest diet last week.

We both got refeeds this week (on Saturday).

I had:

One of my favorite cereals - Krave!

 A cinnamon-roll-flavored Toaster Streudel :)

A petit-four - the first time I've ever had one and possibly the best thing I've eaten in months!

A mini cinnamon-sugar donut - Max adores these and has been trying to sell me on them for months. I am not a big believer in sweets without frosting but this is honestly one of my new favorite donuts. (Boston Cream will always be #1.)

Max's refeed was a little more epic ;-)

He got a hotdog with a side of fries, a cheeseburger, and another order of fries. He's not in keto or on a very low carb diet, so his refeeds are basically unrestricted - mine are high-carb because they are intended to refill my glycogen stores.

That's our pre-contest his & hers WIAW!

And here's my weekly exercise video!

This is a warm-up I use to activate my lats since I have a fairly poor mind-muscle connection with them.

Stand facing a cable pulley with a straight-bar attachment at chest-height. Step back until your arms are fully extended with a very slight bend in the elbow (otherwise you'll use your triceps). Concentrating on squeezing with your lats, push the bar straight down until your hands are beside your thighs. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat.

Of course, always check with a doctor before beginning or changing any exercise program! :)

  1. What is that petit-four? I've never had it. It looks so interesting, but I can't even tell what ingredients are in it. Looks like you both had a great time!

    1. I'm not sure exactly what was in that one - I didn't make it =) If you're asking what a petit-four is, it's layers of wafers and icing (or sometimes just cake) covered with fondant =) This one had a lot of vanilla and sweet almond flavors!

  3. OMG I haven't had a Toaster Streudel in a million years. I always wanted them as a kid b/ they were too expensive so it was a very very rare thing.

    1. Aww me tooooo!!! I used to eat these for breakfast every day. I thought they were maple brown sugar - maybe they just don't make that flavor anymore? :/

  7. I still am confused with "refeed" days... is it just to get all your indulgences out at once? ha! Clearly, I am not a figure competitor!

also, I LOVE that lat exercise... I do that or bench pullovers all the time to warm up!

    1. Hey!! I tweeted you but just in case anyone else is wondering --

I'm on a keto diet. Keto is great in that it's very muscle-sparing & is high in fat (which is good for your endocrine system!) BUT high-intensity exercise is fueled by carbs/glycogen, and on a keto diet, you don't eat many of those at all. So most keto protocols call for a high-carb refeed anywhere from once a week to once a month so you can maintain your exercise intensity. A high-carb refeed also increases leptin levels (leptin is absolutely crucial to weight loss).

Max's "refeed" is more of a cheat - a psychological break from dieting & a chance to eat what he wants for one meal. =)

  12. Oh goodness, this is making me want a donut. and a burger. and a toaster's strudel. All at once.

And totally agree on the Boston Cream - that was my favourite when I was a kid!

  13. don't you just love high-carb days? makes the hard work so much easier and it's so awesome that you and max get to enjoy them together!good luck to him with prep!

  14. NICE meals! the refeed can be so beneficial when dieting and also prevents the crazy binging! I have never heard of that cereal but any cereal is really my downfall! on a refeed I think I would have to have some crackin oat bran!

  15. Ohhh...cannot wait for my cheat meals to begin!

I am into my first week of cutting and can't cheat until we start seeing more progress. Last night I went out to dinner with my BF and he had a huge burger that looked sooo good but I had a veggie salad with grilled chicken instead.

    All in due time!

Can't wait to see what you've got next week...

    :O)
