It would be really easy for me to burn out on this diet if I didn't take some precautions.
First of all, I try to vary the way I prepare my proteins.
Sometimes I scramble eggs with veggies....
other times I cook them over hard....
and sometimes I hard boil an egg and pair it with a microwaved egg white pillow.
I try to mix up the veggies I use as often as possible, too. I buy these big bags from BJs:
I also have gigantic bags of: frozen diced peppers, spinach, and cauliflower. But I figured I wouldn't make the picture too overwhelming. ;-)
I use a variety of different spices & flavors:
Fresh bay leaves, dried basil, garlic, pepper and sea salt:
Cajun!!
Moroccan:

How do you keep your food exciting? =)
I have to admit I'm so bad at mixing up my meals. I usually just have periods where I eat the same thing several times a day, for weeks or usually months at a time. It is boring, but I figure if I'm not yet sick of it, why stop? Haha
ReplyDeleteI do that too!! Right now not so much - I'm enjoying experimenting with flavors - but I definitely have "phases" :)
DeleteUmmm... I don't. hahahhaa I LOVE eating the same thing every day. I actually switched up my spices on my meals this week, only becuase I was out of my favorite kind and am unable to get to costco until tomorrow. I'm living on the edge.
ReplyDeleteBasically.... I am a creature of habit. and embrace it.
I go through phases like that!! haha
DeleteI love that broccoli normandy mix from BJs. It's awesome because you don't get tired of eating the same veggies over and over again. I keep my food exciting mainly by preparing my proteins and veggies in different ways: Crock pot, baking, roasting (not so much with the heat now) and grilling.. of course mrs. dash and mcCormick spices help A LOT too :)
ReplyDeleteI also try to make sure to change up the type of fish I'm eating; tilapia, mahimahi, flounder etc. and I switch between turkey and chicken weekly
I need to get a crock pot. I can't believe I'm 23 years old, married, and I don't have a crock pot.
DeleteI really never get bored of my food :) I think you hit it dead on with the variety of vegetables, different ways you can cook things, and different spices you can use it's really hard to get bored! I think baked chicken tastes so much different than grilled, so that's a great way to change it up! Also, if you have a chicken breast along side rice and a vegetable it is a lot different than dicing chicken breast on top of a salad or slicing it into a sandwich! So many different ways to eat healthy and still have it exciting!
ReplyDeletegreat post xo
Changing up the sides definitely helps a lot! <3 thanks Meg!
DeleteAnother great egg/veggie combo: roast your favorite vegetables (mine are broccoli & brussel sprouts) till they are nice and crispy. Then, put a "dippy egg" (or you could do 1 egg with a couple egg whites) on top! When you cut through the runny yolk, it covers the vegetables making it DELICIOUS!
ReplyDelete- I always put some spices in my eggs while I cook them too, so flavor is never lacking!
- For extra fat, try roasting the veggies in some coconut oil & favorite spices
- Maybe even add a sprinkly of fat free cheese or laughing cow to the mix... possibilities are endless my friend
YUM that sounds delicious!! I'll try it this weekend!! :D
DeleteLove to see you embracing the cauliflower :) Yay for trying new veggies!
ReplyDeletehaha I love it! It's just like broccoli only better!
DeleteWhat's a microwave egg pillow!? Sounds neat!
ReplyDeleteSpray some Pam or cooking spray on a bowl, pour in however much egg white you desire (I used 56g for the one above), and microwave on high until it's cooked through. (It takes about 80 seconds for a 56g-pillow.) Super easy!! =)
DeleteI constantly try new recipes. Every week there is at least 2 new recipes on the menu along with favorites worth repeating.
ReplyDeleteI host a weekly health and fitness link up, Fitness Friday, if you're interested in joining. This is the link for last week's link up so you can see what it's all about.
[Fitness, Health and Happiness]: Fitness Friday
I'll check it out for sure!!! =)
DeleteEver considered currying up your goodies?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I do fish with tomatoes, olives, capers and onion. It takes less than 20 minutes chop to bite. Olives are good oil.
I may have to break down and make a microwaved egg.
Hey one more thing. Meatballs I make turkey balls (lol). Bake and then freeze. You can micro them later (or oven) and eat over a salad. or with veggies.
What is in the bowl with microwaved egg? I stare and I cannot figure.
Yellow squash, broccoli, and carrots! =) and there's zucchini too but you can't quite see it.
DeleteI'll have to try currying! Once I get sick of my current spice rotations ;-) haha
This is actually a really great blog post-thank you. I'm starting to get extremely bored with my high protein options but thinking about the different ways I can eat eggs...ect has got me thinking of better ideas. I do like always preparing proteins too because protein powder is boring plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteProtein powder is SO boring! I'd much rather eat real meat.
DeleteGreat egg variations...I love all the variety!
ReplyDeleteMe too! :) I love eggs - they're my fave protein source!
DeleteSometimes I think mine gets boring - but changing up sauces or spices can help or even how it's served.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely!!!!
DeleteI have a lot of limitations on what I can eat too (totally different foods though...mostly less healthy ones haha) and herbs/flavouring do make all of the difference.
ReplyDeleteAmazing self-disclipline though - it makes me realise I need to stop complaining about being bored with my meals/snacks!
haha! Thank you! I'm sure I'll be complaining at some point in the intermediate future ;-)
Deletethank goodness that veggies pair well with so many protein sources :)
ReplyDeleteRight?! I don't know what I'd do!!
DeleteIf spices didn't exist I would die. I need my curry powder with me at all times.
ReplyDeleteME TOO. I have to have some variety!
DeleteGreat post, we eat a lot alike. I think I need to expand my spice horizons...Moroccan? Cool! The pictures are much appreciated too.
ReplyDeleteA big revelation for me over the last few years as I overhauled my heating (with much help) was the idea that it's OK to eat the same foods, or variations thereof. Not every meal has to be some unique, complex, restaurant-like meal. That was a huge thing to let go of and really took the pressure off. I eat so simply but love it.
I thought Moroccan would be too spicy for me but it's not - it's just a nice, complex flavor!
DeleteI guess I've been lucky because my meals have never been elaborate productions - growing up, we'd have one 'production' of a meal a week, and other than that it was the same old, same old.
I love those big bags from BJs!! haha!
ReplyDeleteEggs and veggie scrambles are awesome.
Egg + veg scramble is currently my fave meal! If I could eat it 5x a day I would.
DeleteMan I wish I had that kind of creativity. I ate the same exact boring chicken and rice for 10 months. Finally near the end I discovered Chipotle Mrs. Dash, but other than that, it was egg whites and cucumbers.
ReplyDeleteMmmm I love Chipotle Mrs. Dash!!!!
DeleteI use Mrs. Dash on ANYTHING I make!!! I love the extra spicy flavor!!! I am like you though, chicken and veggies all the way. Good thing I like to eat the same things over and over again.
ReplyDeleteThat one is just a smidge too spicy for me!! Max loves it though.
DeleteYum! You're smart to shake things up with your protein.. I always do the same thing with protein and now you've inspired me to change it up!! Have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteIt makes it so much easier to eat more protein when you vary it!! =)
Deletei agree! my diet may not be as limited as yours - but it is super important to keep things interesting and try different techniques and different flavors to avoid getting bored. this is one reason eggs are so beautiful - so many preparations with completely different results!
ReplyDeletei'm just catching up on my blog reader and i'm so proud of you! you're making awesome progress and i'm so excited to see you meet your goals and compete!
ReplyDeletelove the dedication! you're a pretty cool lady! :)
