I'm Beginning to Look a Lot Like....

A future figure competitor!

I'm not executing this pose perfectly! =) I'm just starting to learn how to pose.
Credit to Jay Ashman for the program that created that back! I've never, ever had visible rear delts before!
I am 12 weeks, 5 days out (who's counting?) and I'm finally starting to think that I'm not going to be the one girl on stage people are pointing at and whispering, "Why is she even up there?!"

Let's talk about the heels for just one minute though.

Those babies are FIVE INCHES. Five. Like, almost half a foot.

I am a TOMBOY. (What is the grown up version of a tomboy?) I do not wear heels. Do not. Like...I wore 1-2" heels 5 days a week for a year, and then I discovered flats, and that is my whole history with heels.

....So I will be walking around in those puppies whenever I am home for the next 12 weeks.

And NO VIDEOS. Don't even ask. I look ridiculous walking in these things right now.

How did you learn to walk in heels? Competitors- got any tips for me?

  2. 5 inch heels?!?!? DANG!!! I would be falling all over the place haha
Oh and umm your back is FREAKIN RIPPED! You're really looking fantastic Sable! :)

  3. Lookin' good! I am short so I have almost always worn heels (hubby is 6'2"). I don't even know how I learned, I remember stumbling around in play shoes playing dress up.

  4. Wow, your back is looking amazing!!!! So incredible :)

I never wear heels anymore (my office attire is workout clothes, I love it!) but I wore them for years back in my partying/proper office job days. My only tip is to shorten your natural stride and try not to think about them too much!

    1. HAHAHA I am DEFINITELY shortening my stride. To like, 3 inches/step. LOL. I assume that will lengthen once I no longer feel like I'm going to keel over? haha

  5. A grown up tomboy is.... a casual hobo? Yeah, that's what I call myself anyway! haha

That being said, I would live in heels if it was more practical, if you're serious about walking in heels help, let me know!

    1. HAHA!! Casual hobo.... hahaha! I love it.

YES! Help me!!! You know what I'm most afraid of?? #1 fear? Wiping out on stage. Ick.

  6. Haha, I'm a heel pro. I still wear 3-inchers to teach every day. And I own a pair in every color of the rainbow. My best advice is to strike heel down first, don't walk on your toes. I've seen many a high school girl shuffle along in her 3-inch heels by walking only on her toes :)

    1. Ahh that's exactly what I've been doing - shuffling along on my toes. haha. Duly noted! I'll start walking on my heels ;-)

  7. Hooray! Definitely practice, and I second the "take shorter strides" advice from Tara. If they start to hurt your feet you can always wear a pair of socks while you're breaking them in to help protect your skin. Which reminds me I need to get a pair of shoes to wear for my brother's wedding...haha. Are you tanning?

    1. I guess I will be practicing A LOT for the next few months! lol!!!

I will be tanning. I want to do it as briefly as possible to minimize the damage to my skin :/

  8. Wow your back is looking Amazing!! Better than amazing actually. Amaze-balls :) And the only advice I can give for walking in heels is to keep your weight back on your heels, otherwise your forefoot will be in so much pain before you make it out of the house! (and a little bit of a platform is key)

    1. Haha thanks Stephanie! I will definitely try to walk on my heels, not on my toes!

  9. Beginning? I think you're almost there! Your back is seriously incredible.

I'm afraid I'm no help on the heels front: I have never been able to walk in them and they throw my back out terribly (scoliosis sucks on so many levels) so I'm confined to flats (trainers) forever. Heels would mess up my running anyway - too much injury potential ;) Although being so short it would be nice to know what it feels like to be 5ft 8!

    1. Thank you Jessica!! =) =)

I have scoliosis too!!! You can see it if I do a pose like a back double biceps...heck even a front double biceps... that's part of the reason I'd never try to do physique or female bodybuilding; you can see those variations way too clearly with a body fat percentage below oh about 14.

  10. Looking AMAZING Sable! Wow look at your back definition!!! you have the perfect amount of muscle mass for this.
I have a good feeling about your prep - You are doing it correctly in the sense that you have built a good base of muscle mass first.
Good luck to you and can't wait to follow along!!!

    1. Thank you so much Andrea!!! I just hope I can maintain most of my size through the rest of the diet - and of course that I don't stall out!! eek!

  11. You look awesome. Looking forward to seeing your transformation. Also, walking in heels is just something that you have practice at, IMO. I used to be super good at walking at heels when I was in high school (wtf) cause I wore them all the time. Then I started wearing Chucks every day and completely lost the ability haha.

    1. I will be practicing my butt off for the next couple of months then! haha! I love my chucks.

  15. Wooo!! So impressive! I agree with Bethany ^^: You are melting away!!
EE, unfortunately for my posture, I have been wearing 4" heels since...11 or 12 years old. Anyway practice makes perfect (think of it like an extension of your leg, you're not going to fall!) and it's totally worth it because look what they do to your calves!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. That helps so much!! I just tried that - imagining that the heels are part of my leg - and it felt MUCH more natural.

  16. Looking fab :)
And I still can't wear heels now!

  19. Holy booty lady! You look freakin awesome! You're post lately have got me back on the training train. I slack so easily. How is your stomach going? Stomach is easier for me, skinny upper body, it's thighs and booty that refuse to get on track. Yeah and heels, no way. Can't do it. Well technically I have chunky heels that I can walk in, but they're only 2 inches high. Does that even count? Have you decided what you're going to wear for the competition? Are you walking around in a bikini all day cause you're so stoked how awesome you look!

    1. My tummy is the last to go! I swear it hasn't changed at all in the past three weeks even though my arms are getting cut and my legs are pretty defined =( I alllways hold the most fat in my stomach.

I think I'm going to go with a deep blue or purple bikini =) There's a piece of jewelry Max's grandmother left me that has a lot of sentimental value to me and I'd like to be able to wear it on stage and not look like a dufus!!!

  20. I cant believe you didnt at least sweep our floor before taking this pic :p

  21. looking GREAT!!! and yes,i too am such a tomboy! it took me a while to learn to walk in heels! and my biggest fear was falling on stage bc i felt like i looked like a 3yr old toddler wearing her mommy's heels and clomping and wobbling all about!
but what i did to help:
cleaned my house in heels....vacuum,sweep,dishes,laundry-practiced walking in the safety of my own home..and then when i wasn't in heels,i would walk on my tiptoes when not in shoes...
    just keep practicing!
    you ROCK!

    1. Thank you SO MUCH Melissa!! I just swept the floor (ahem, MAX) and vacuumed in heels and it definitely seemed to help - I wasn't focusing so much on how I felt as I was on the chores, so it felt more natural! and I didn't fall over. haha!

  28. I can't tell you how many times I'vve experience the infamous ankle twist (I call it crackin' my ankles) from "trying" to walk in heels. I'm 39 years old, and finally KINDA getting better at it. Try slipping on those heels in the dead of night to walk to the bathroom when you gotta go pee. LOL!

  29. Gorgeous back!!!! I grew up with an uber girly latina mom so heels, makeup, dresses, were just part of my growing up. I remember going thru the grunge phase in the 90s and hearing from my mom "Aye Dios Mio, Chreesteena (cause she named me Christine although she can't say it)why ju dress like a man.....eres muy pretty to dress like dat" I actually talk about that with my girlfriends...I'm just now learning to embrace my inner tomboy and its tons of fun. The best thing I can tell you is definitely walk in them as often as possible, if they are slippery buy the gritty sticky type thing you can put on the soles to help.

  31. Looking GREAT! (You have a great butt! I see those cheeks :) Evidence of killer squats!)

No advice... I have absolutely no experience in competing, BUT, I will say walking in heels (all of the time) is the best/only way to get used to them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow check out your back! Nice! You look fabulous! You have to wear heels often to get used to them. My only flats are my flip flops and workout shoes. when I get dressed for anything else I am wearing tall wedges and high heels. That's so awesome you are gonna compete. I admire the dedication but I lack the discipline to devote the time and follow such a strict diet to get to competitive level!

    1. Thank you Cassidy!! =)

I thought I'd have trouble with the diet/food prep/level of dedication but it's been pretty smooth sailing so far - once you're 100% comitted and you know you're about to be on a stage in front of your grandfather and husband and judges and people from the gym in a bikini... it's easy to stick to the regimen! LOL!
