Figure Prep: Changing My Tastebuds

When I have altered my diet in the past, I've always been surprised at how my cravings and preferences change.

This pre-contest diet is no exception!

I have started to explore the wonderful world of vegetables.

That's okra! I've never had it before but it was on sale at Publix so I grabbed a pound, and it's delicious roasted!

I am basically in love with broccoli at this point. Roasted, steamed, broiled - however I prep it, it's my fave!

I'm also REALLY taking advantage of the abundance of summer squashes and cauliflower! =)

Of course, when Max eats chocolate-chip pancakes, I do wish I could share ;-) but the beautiful thing about having a goal with a deadline is that I have a very clear vision of where I want to be in a little less than 3 months, and I know exactly what it's going to take to get there.

Third-party accountability also helps; Grampa already booked a hotel room to attend the show, so I have to show up in condition and make him proud.

Making a decision between one moment of chocolate-chip-pancake bliss or a look of pride on Grampa and Max's faces - well. I don't even have to think about that choice.

  1. Summer is my favorite time for vegetables. I love the squash! And I think accountability is the absolute best way to keep me motivated and focused. That's part of what got me through Whole30, knowing so many people were cheering for me and excited for me to be successful. There will always be more chocolate chip pancakes to eat but there won't always be more chances to compete!

  3. I recently just tried okra as well. I completely agree! It's delicious. Congrats on your prep. I have never seen such determination, and it's not even for vanity reasons. It's to prove what you can do and make your hubby and grandpa proud. PROPS to you! I can't wait until your competition. :)

  5. You go girl!! It probably really does help that the summer has soo many delicious veggies. Way to look at the long-term goal vs. the short term bliss. Delayed gratification for the win :)

  6. I am so proud of you sweetie :) funny thing you say you are loving broccoli so much! Last night I just simply steamed my broccoli and drizzled walnut oil on it. I couldn't stop raving how it was so yummy. My parents thought I was being funny but I was so serious!

  7. I'm pretty much a veggie hater, but I actually love broccoli. I know it's supposed to be one of the most despised vegetables out there, but it's the only one I ALWAYS eat!

    1. I don't understand why anyone hates broccoli! I mean I wouldn't eat it raw, personally, but there are so many ways to prepare it!

  14. Have you had pickled okra? I'm totally addicted.

Also, I am having a similar love affair with cauliflower. I like it roasted with apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and nutritional yeast.

  15. Girl you are so inspiring! I know you will get there! This is why I could never compete. I love chocolate way too much! haha However you inspire me to push harder at the gym! I have never tried Okra before either! However I live off broccoli and cauliflower. I buy bags of the frozen mix of cauliflower and broccoli combo. I like to sautee them up in olive oil with onions and mushrooms and season it with just a little salt and pepper. Super delish.

    1. Yum!!

Also, totally weird: I had a dream about sauteeing mushrooms and onions in olive oil, then woke up and read this comment... I wonder if that's a sign?!?!

    1. I used to hate them!! I still have to be careful when I introduce new veggies (or, say, eat green beans instead of broccoli for a couple of weeks and then try to reintroduce 2 cups of broccoli in one day.....note to self.....) but I've learned to prep each one the way I like it - it took lots of experimenting!!

  17. I am so stoked for you Sable. You are going to rock this. I agree with you though, I now have a new appreciation for vegetables, but broccoli will never be acceptable to my palate. I have now discovered that I love roasted zucchini.
