| For the whole batch (makes 5...not the 4 you see above. Someone couldn't control herself), sans frosting: 10.2 Fat / 21.9 Carbs / 34 Protein |
20g rolled oats
30g (1 scoop) Whey Protein
10g whole wheat flour
1 packet Splenda (or other sweetener)
1 tsp baking powder or xanthan gum
1 tsp baking powder or xanthan gum
15g light cream cheese
1 egg
Mix the dry (first 5) ingredients in a bowl while preheating oven to 325. In a small bowl, beat egg and let cream cheese soften to room temperature. Fold egg and cream cheese into dry ingredients, mix well and add about a tablespoon of water. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the middle of a muffin comes out clean (about 15 minutes).
As you can see in the first pic I chose to top mine with cream cheese frosting :D For this I simply mixed 1 tablespoon room temperature cream cheese with 2 grams of sugar free chocolate Jell-O mix.
Anyway so you know how yesterday we were talking about how I was up all night being mushy? Yeah, so I had cystitis. (That's the non-ladylike term for a UTI. Oops, there it is -- I let the iguana out of the garage!)
After four hours of intermittent crying, three full tablets of Melatonin, and more Ibuprofin than I care to remember (sorry liver!), I turned to the trusty Internet. And I found the holy grail.

No, not that one. This one.
That, my friends, is a little miracle called the Earth Clinic, whose users heartily recommended two things: 1) Apple Cider Vinegar and 2) Alka-Seltzer.
Luckily I had both in my cupboard. For the record, I would NOT recomment taking a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar by itself. Nor would I recommend mixing it with water. What ya need to do is take two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, mix in approximately a pound of honey, and then hold your nose and swallow quick. And UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you mix the Apple Cider Vinegar and the Alka-Seltzer. Just don't.

ANYhow I was so thrilled to find this home remedy that I am now convinced that I should get my grubby little paws hands on all of them.
What is the best (or worst!!!) home remedy you've tried?

Apple cider vinegar = horrifying.
ReplyDeleteI tried using it this summer as a home remedy for stomach issues -- I did it as a shot. Gross. Then I diluted it in a very tall glass of water. Gross. Then I put stevia in it. Sweet, but still gross. I'd rather just sprinkle it on some veggies. Or dump it down the drain.
ooh girl hope you're feeling better!! that sounds awful :(
ReplyDeleteAYE that sounds awful! You poor thing! I hope you feel better soon (or already since your apple cider vinegar potion seemed to work!)
ReplyDeletehaha Kristen, I spent like 30 minutes on the Kraft website trying to find a recipe using apple cider vinegar that didn't seem like it would kill me...yeah not ONE of those recipes looks good. Egh.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I am feeling better and slamming 3 packets of Emergen-C a day just in case! loL!
I hope you are feeling better Sable!! UTIs are awful!! Your muffins look insanely yummy too..I have an obsession with cream cheese - I love it!!
ReplyDeleteIts perfect with some stevia as icing too! What flavors of that jello mix do you like? Is it sweetened with splenda?
Have a great day girl,
C
Seriously -- the minute I felt it coming on (at 10pm -- of course) I wanted to cry lol. CLEARLY I killed someone in a past life and am being punished.
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate fudge (not plain chocolate for whatever reason?!), lemon, vanilla and butterscotch. And yep they're sweetened with Splenda (at least the ghetto store brand that I buy lol!)
Little fact for you: we call UTIs cystitis as a matter of course in the UK. If you said UTI, people probably wouldn't know what you were talking about.
ReplyDeleteAnd if that home remedy really works, then that is an AMAZING bit of info. You can't get anything decent over the counter here -- it's either just painkillers and lots of water for a few days, or go to the doc for ABs if it doesn't shift. Misery.
Anyway, I'm glad you're feeling better. It's a miserable feeling -- I know from a lot of experience!
Oh my gosh Alison. That's awful!!!
ReplyDeleteThe apple cider vinegar and alka seltzer worked for me! I dosed it every 4 hours while I was awake and I was fully functional! I did read that it doesn't work for some people though.
Also, not-so-fun fact, I discovered that there are people who have a disease (forget what it's called) which basically causes them to have all the cystitis symptoms all the time. Honestly, those people are my heroes, because I don't know what the hell I would do! Can you imagine?
Oh I hope you feel better love : p xo
ReplyDeleteYour cream cheese muffins look so good!!!! Love!
Hope you have a great day! xoxo Im jealous you had a 4 hour nap!
That sounds awful!! Feel better!!
ReplyDeleteoh lordy that sounds like a BEAST of a night! i'm glad you found a home remedy that works but sounds equally as nastiness haha
ReplyDeleteI want these muffins! Perfect timing on the recipe girl, I just got some TJ's peanut butter cream cheese ♥
ReplyDeleteFeel bettter!
Yummy recipe - and not the Apple Cider Vinegar and Alka-Seltzer one ;0
ReplyDeleteI have a major aversion to whiskey b/c as a child (and this would be sooooo frowned upon now) my grandparents would give me a whiskey, lemon, honey concoction for coughs.
